Arthur Miller, A View from the Bridge Essay Example for Free
Arthur Miller, A View from the Bridge Essay The relationships in ââ¬ËA View from the Bridgeââ¬â¢ are very complex as because of peopleââ¬â¢s attitudes back then. There is secrecy, suspicion, love and concern. Eddie is weirdly attracted to Catherine and his relationship with his wife Beatrice deteriorates. The relationship between Eddie and Catherine is very close, although they are not immediate family Eddie has become a surrogate father and thinks of himself as her real father. He is very protective of his daughter and would probably die for her, but this first innocent love perverts into a weird incest like love for his niece. Eddie still treats her like she is five although she is going out into the big wide world, this shocks Eddie and it makes him closer to her and more possessive which turns ugly when Rodolfo is introduced. At the start of the play Eddie has a go at his daughter about what she is wearing, ââ¬ËCatherine I donââ¬â¢t want to be a pestâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦.à Walkinââ¬â¢ wavyââ¬â¢. This shows he has genuine concern for his daughter similar to how modern fathers would react today; this is more of an example to show how much he loves her like a father rather than a lover. He also doesnââ¬â¢t want to let go for his ââ¬Ëdaughterââ¬â¢ and tries to shoot down any discussion of a job, ââ¬Ënear the navy yardâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦.. Longshoremenââ¬â¢ he is unreasonably disagreeing with any suggestions of a real job for Catherine which just amplifies his blatant love for her. Catherine and Beatriceââ¬â¢s relationship is very different to the relationship between Eddie Catherine, Beatrice wants the best for Catherine and wants her to go get the job and wants her to leave, and she is more positive than Eddie and less caring for her. This could be that she was not as committed to the adoption of Catherine compared to Eddie, but also as she has had less to lose because Eddie has paid for her to go through school and to live, whereas Bea is probably getting a little sick of her hanging about. She is very supportive of Catherineââ¬â¢s independence ââ¬ËWell I donââ¬â¢t understand when itââ¬â¢s going â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦.. Itââ¬â¢s an honour for herââ¬â¢. Catherine is also less fond of her and cares more for her uncle as he is the man of the family and provides for her and doesnââ¬â¢t feel for Bea as much because she had less of a role in bringing her up over the years. The relationship between Bea and Eddie starts of normal as the play starts innocent and all happy families but hen as the play progresses Bea starts to notice changes about how Eddie is acting towards her. As Eddie is spending more time chasing Catherine around he is spending less time with his wife and she becomes distraught and upset and also starts to understand why this is happening. Because of Bea realising his it explains why she is so keen for her to become independent and leave because it would be better for everyone if she did leave. ââ¬ËWhen am I going to be a wife again Eddie? ââ¬â¢ shows how upset she is becoming and Eddie doesnââ¬â¢t seem to care about her and tries to ignore the conversation and not provide her with a straight answer. The play basically steers the whole relationship systems so that Eddie and Bea come off worse while Eddie and Catherine gets better. It is obvious that Eddie starts to stop caring about Bea and more about Catherine; Catherine doesnââ¬â¢t seem to notice the weird attraction that Eddie has towards her and carries on like normal. And the more she is around the worse Eddie will get and the more attracted the will become. So Arthur miller presents the family as a normal generic happy family that during the course of the play deteriorates into a weird perverted relationship.

Al Capone :: essays research papers
By all accounts, Alphonse did well at school until the 6th grade, then at the age of 14 he was expelled for retaliating against a female teacher who hit him. Following his expulsion, the Capone family decided to move neighbourhoods - a chance move that would have a huge impact on Al's criminal future. Just round the corner from Capone's new home was the headquarters of gentleman gangster Johnny Torrio's East Coast operation. And like many boys in the area, he became involved in running errands for Torrio, just to earn a little extra money. Despite his involvement with Torrio and street gangs, Capone continued to work and support his family. However, when Torrio moved to Chicago, Capone was left open to some bad influences. At the age of 18, Capone was hired by an aggressive gangster Frankie Yale to work in his bar, the Harvard Inn. It was an incident in the Harvard Inn that earned Capone his nickname "Scarface". One night local gangster Frank Gallucio was drinking with his sister at the Harvard Inn, when Capone approached the young girl to pay her a compliment. Gallucio took offence to the young punk and began a brawl with Capone, it was during the scuffle the older man pulled a knife and cut Capone's face three times - Scarface was born. In early 1918, the career of Capone took another unexpected turn when he met the other most influential person in his life - his future wife Mae. Later that year, on December 4th, Capone became the proud father of Albert (Sonny) Francis Capone - Johnny Torrio became the godfather to his son. Such a dramatic change in lifestyle made him reconsider his career, and he resigned from the Harvard Inn and went to work for a construction firm as a bookkeeper. Chicago's underworld beckons In January 1920, the 18th Amendment of the Prohibition Act came into force, which made the brewing, distilling and distribution of alcohol completely illegal. The Prohibition era had begun, and Chicago's criminal underworld, including Johnny Torrio, was well prepared to make bootlegging illegal alcohol an extremely profitable business. Back in New York, Capone continued to concentrate on his legitimate career right up until the end of 1920 when his father tragically died. Without this strong parental figure, he resumed contact with Torrio, who had built up an influential racketeering empire in Chicago. It wasn't long before Torrio invited him to join him, and within a few months, Capone's life took a drastic turn that would change his destiny forever.

Digital Fortress Chapter 38
Hale stopped halfway to the Node 3 pantry and stared at Susan. ââ¬Å"What's wrong, Sue? You look terrible.â⬠Susan fought her rising fear. Ten feet away, Hale's monitor glowed brightly. ââ¬Å"I'mâ⬠¦ I'm okay,â⬠she managed, her heart pounding. Hale eyed her with a puzzled look on his face. ââ¬Å"You want some water?â⬠Susan could not answer. She cursed herself. How could I forget to dim his damn monitor? Susan knew the moment Hale suspected her of searching his terminal, he'd suspect she knew his real identity, North Dakota. She feared Hale would do anything to keep that information inside Node 3. Susan wondered if she should make a dash for the door. But she never got the chance. Suddenly there was a pounding at the glass wall. Both Hale and Susan jumped. It was Chartrukian. He was banging his sweaty fists against the glass again. He looked like he'd seen Armageddon. Hale scowled at the crazed Sys-Sec outside the window, then turned back to Susan. ââ¬Å"I'll be right back. Get yourself a drink. You look pale.â⬠Hale turned and went outside. Susan steadied herself and moved quickly to Hale's terminal. She reached down and adjusted the brightness controls. The monitor went black. Her head was pounding. She turned and eyed the conversation now taking place on the Crypto floor. Apparently, Chartrukian had not gone home, after all. The young Sys-Sec was now in a panic, spilling his guts to Greg Hale. Susan knew it didn't matter-Hale knew everything there was to know. I've got to get to Strathmore, she thought. And fast.

The stem ofà comporterà isà comport. All you have to do is add the appropriate infinitive ending to match the subject pronoun and the tense of your sentence. This is formed quite simply as well: the -erà ending is dropped and -antà is added to the verb stem. This is a verb, of course, but you may also find it useful as an adjective, gerund, or noun in certain circumstances. The Passà © Composà © and Past Participle Aà rather common way to express the past tense in French is theà passà © composà ©. Rather than conjugateà comporterà using the imperfect, you only need to know theà past participleà comportà ©. Yet, you do need to include the conjugate of theà auxiliary verbà avoir.
